He really manages to capture vulnerability, rage, despair, and love all in the same look. But without such an expressive and multilayered performance from him, I think this show would be a less interesting. The more I watch the more I realize that the whole thing is anchored by Anthony Starr's performance (I mean, of course, he's the leading man). Not much to add to my previous remarks except to just repeat that this show is almost completely detached from reality. What it lacks in finesse it makes up in sheer entertainment.Įdit #2: Just finished season 2. It has a certain brash charm to it that is also present in Warrior (which I think is a better show overall, thusfar). Not loving the handheld approach to the cinematography, tbh, but the show is so unapologetically violent and sexual and over the top that it is winning me over. On the other hand, I am already getting the sense that it might not go far enough in that direction for it to be worth my time. On the one hand, I like how committed it is to being lowbrow, pulpy entertainment. Little late, but - watched the first two episodes last night and it is one of the most gratuitous and ridiculous shows I have ever seen. R/television's favorite shows of all time (2021 edition)
